This event will present a newly developed Toolkit designed to support the development of new products and services based on inventions in the public domain as well as associated multimedia reference and learning resources.
The Toolkit complements the WIPO guides “Identifying Inventions in the Public Domain” and “Using Inventions in the Public Domain”.
The event will include an introduction of the Toolkit and associated reference and learning resources by their principal authors as well as reflections from representatives from WIPO member states involved in their piloting.
The event will held in English with interpretation in French and Spanish.

Leah Speser is one of the founders of the modern practice of technology transfer and commercialization. She holds a PhD and JD and is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional and a certified New Product Development Professional, Emergency Medical Technician, and Firefighter. Her book, the Art and Science of Technology Transfer, is a widely used textbook. She has, together with the team at Foresight Science & Technology, the company she founded in 1980, helped companies earn billions of dollars in revenues from innovation and new product development. She is currently Chair of the Board of Directors at Foresight and Senior Consultant for Knowledge Transfer and Commercialization at the Research and Innovation Foundation of the Republic of Cyprus. As a transgendered woman for over 30 years, she is also a proud advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion in commercialization, new product development and knowledge transfer worldwide.
Arendt Oak Speser, Ph.D. is CEO of Foresight Science & Technology, Inc., a full-service Technology and Knowledge Transfer consulting firm with offices in the US and Italy. He has helped commercialize technology across numerous sectors and developed training programs for the US National Institute of Health (NIH) and WIPO. Dr. Speser works at the intersection of research, business and new product development, entrepreneurship, marketing, and design. He is currently focused on building partnerships between industry and research organizations in the US and Europe, with an interest in licensing and collaborative agreements. He is a member of multiple professional organizations including AUTM and ASTP, and is pursuing RTTP certification. In addition to his work at Foresight, he is a humanities professor, writer, editor, publisher, and curator who maintains an active role in the creative arts.
